I’ve realised that these posts will become purely films at some point as I’m not a huge comfort re-watcher of TV shows. I do have some really good ones to talk about though, but not today as I’ve got a classic film to talk about.
The Parent Trap (1998)
I’ve been obsessed with this film ever since I was a kid and I still love watching it to this day. As a kid, I genuinely thought Lindsay Lohan had a twin and when I found out she didn’t it blew my mind. I couldn’t get my head around how she filmed scenes with her self. Obviously I know now how they did it.
I was absolutely desperate to go to the summer camp, which isn’t something we really have in the UK. Which was unusual as I was very much a stay indoors and read type of kid (I still am). If actually put in that situation, I absolutely would have hated it, but my child mind was convinced I’d love to spend my summer out in the wilderness camping. I think part of me wanted to discover I have a long lost twin to do a cool handshake with. Fun fact: my older sister and I learnt that handshake when we were kids (I think I forced her to learn it). We couldn’t do it now though.
The pure nostalgia I feel every time I watch this film cannot be beaten and nothing else will ever come close. There’s something so warm and comforting about the settings and I absolutely adore the mom.
Chessie is also a top character. I love that she knew pretty much instantly that Annie was pretending to Hallie based on her food preferences. The dad though, useless. He had no idea.
I’m definitely also due a rewatch of this soon, it’s more of a summer watch though, so maybe not just yet.
Synopsis: Identical twins Hallie and Annie are separated after their parents’ divorce. Years later, they discover each other at a summer camp and decide to switch places in an effort to reunite their parents.
