The Best Of: My Favourite Christmas Films

I did a post similar to this a few years ago, but I’ve now realised that I limited myself with the type of post it was. I’m not sure why I did it as a top 5 when I have more than five films I love. Anyway, this is a new festive series that will be returning every year.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

The Grinch has been my favourite Christmas film for quite some time now. I usually watch it at least twice during the festive season.

In recent years I have limited my watching to only when I put up my tree and Christmas Eve. However this year I’m probably going to break those rules. Firstly because I work from home now, so no one can stop me watching it while I work and secondly because it’s a comfort film for me and who doesn’t love a good cosy, comfort watch this time of year?

Honestly, if you haven’t seen How The Grinch Stole Christmas by now I don’t know what to say. It really is the best (and most festive) film and it never fails to make me laugh. Even though I know it word for word.

Synopsis: Grinch lives in solitude just outside Whoville. He hates the townsfolk and despises Christmas. Cindy Lou, a six-year-old girl who believes in the spirit of the festival, sets out to reform him.

Home Alone (1990)

Home Alone is an absolute classic and a Christmas Eve must-watch also. There is so much nostalgia packed into this film that even though I’ve seen it pretty much every year of my life, I never get bored of it.

I have recently started to appreciate the second film (I’m a purist so they are the only two that exist in my mind). I still prefer the original because I haven’t really seen the second that many times, but I love both of them.

Synopsis: Eight-year-old Kevin is accidentally left behind when his family leaves for France. At first, he is happy to be in charge, but when thieves try to break into his home, he tries to put up a fight.
