To Be Read: August 2024

August is about to be a very busy reading month. I have four ARC to read (more on these in a future post) and I won’t lie, I’m a little nervous about it. My reading habits have really suffered lately as I’ve just bought and moved into my first home and it needs a lot more work than expected. Also, HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT–I have a puppy!! He’s a 13-week old, black and white whippet called Lando. So, you can probably understand why I haven’t been reading much. For this reason, I really need to take some pressure off myself reading-wise.

I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman

I put this on my summer to be read so I should probably get around to reading it soon. I’ve just set up my new bookshelf in my new house and I Was Born for This is constantly staring at me.

I only have two Alice Oseman books left to read and I would like to get through all of them before the end of the year. Is this possible? I hope so, but we will have to wait and see.

Synopsis: For Angel Rahimi, life is only about one thing: The Ark – a pop-rock trio of teenage boys who are currently taking the world by storm. Being part of The Ark’s fandom has given her everything – her friendships, her dreams, her place in the world.

Jimmy Kaga-Ricci owes everything to The Ark too. He’s their frontman – and playing in a band is all he’s ever dreamed of doing. It’s just a shame that recently everything in his life seems to have turned into a bit of a nightmare.

Because that’s the problem with dreaming – eventually, inevitably, real life arrives with a wake-up call. And when Angel and Jimmy are unexpectedly thrust together, they will discover just how strange and surprising facing up to reality can be.

Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins Volume II by Matthew Mercer & Jody Houser

I don’t normally plan to read graphic novels, I just pick them up when I feel like it, but this will be a great short read to help me get back into reading again. If you saw my haul post for July you will know I’ve got all of the Vox Machina graphic novels so I’m starting to collect the Might Nein ones now. I would like to read the Jester one next month, as I do already have it, but it’s in a box somewhere and I’m nowhere near done with unpacking yet.

Synopsis: The unlikely heroes of Vox Machina are back in action!

Join familiar faces from Critical Role’s smash-hit first campaign as their escapades in Stilben lead them toward new adventure—and a dire threat to Grog when he goes missing in the night. Tracking him down will see the party lose one member, gain another, and reveal parts of Grog’s secret past. But first, his friends have to actually find him.
