To Be Read: January 2026

I say this every year, but this year has gone by so fast. I’ve just looked back at this post from a year ago to see if I actually read everything I said I would and I literally failed in the first month. I’m yet to continue The Sad Ghost Club series and it’s been an entire year since I said I would. Apologies to Hachette for never getting around to reviewing the non-fiction companion novel you sent me last year – I’m terrible at sticking to my to be read. I always seem to not read one of the books I say I will read every single month. Hopefully that changes in 2026. Let’s see shall we?

I have Kindle Unlimited until the end of next month but I’m not going crazy with it. I’d usually only read KU books to get the most out of the subscription but as it was only 99p for three months I’m just reading a few books each month with it. My to be read is way too long to put off.

Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn

My original plan was to read this book during December but then I got the Kindle Unlimited deal and who can refuse three months for just 99p? Plus, this book is very long and anything over 450 pages is very intimidating to me. Thankfully, I have reviews done up until the end of February already, so I think I’ll have time for this. After I read my first ARC of 2026, which I keep forgetting about.

Synopsis: The shadows have risen, and the line is law.

All Bree wanted was to uncover the truth behind her mother’s death. So she infiltrated the Legendborn Order, a secret society descended from King Arthur’s knights—only to discover her own ancestral power. Now, Bree has become someone new:

A Medium. A Bloodcrafter. A Scion.

But the ancient war between demons and the Order is rising to a deadly peak. And Nick, the Legendborn boy Bree fell in love with, has been kidnapped.

Bree wants to fight, but the Regents who rule the Order won’t let her. To them, she is an unknown girl with unheard-of power, and as the living anchor for the spell that preserves the Legendborn cycle, she must be protected.

When the Regents reveal they will do whatever it takes to hide the war, Bree and her friends must go on the run to rescue Nick themselves. But enemies are everywhere, Bree’s powers are unpredictable and dangerous, and she can’t escape her growing attraction to Selwyn, the mage sworn to protect Nick until death.

If Bree has any hope of saving herself and the people she loves, she must learn to control her powers from the ancestors who wielded them first—without losing herself in the process.

Dear Mya by Danielle Keil

This is my one Kindle Unlimited pick for next month. I may end up reading more of the series as my plan is to finish it before my subscription runs out. Which should be easy to do as they aren’t very long books. Plus they’re really enjoyable and the last few instalments have turned the premise on its head a little.

Synopsis: Everyone at Ryder High knows what it means to have a teal envelope taped to their locker on the first day of the month.

Mya Burton received not only one envelope, but two.

The second envelope held a change to the Secret Admirer program— if she agreed, Mya would be the first girl to have two Secret Admirers.

It had never been done before. In each clue, the boys would both answer the same basic questions, followed by writing a short, non-identifying letter to Mya.

At the end of the month, she would have to choose just one without knowing who he really is.

But before she can, a shakeup hits the school. A hater slanders the game, leaving Mya feeling defeated and the other chosen girls needing to stick together.

Will Mya be able to finish her month on a happy note?

And will her blind decision be the best one for her?

The Mortal Instruments: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 3 by Cassandra Clare & Cassandra Jean

I started reading this a ridiculously long time ago and can’t remember why I put it down. It definitely wasn’t because I wasn’t enjoying it. Anyway, a new year feels like the perfect time to continue a bunch of series I started a while ago. I made that one of my reading goals a couple of years ago and I think I may do the same for 2026 (I haven’t written that post yet).

Synopsis: The third installment of the graphic novel adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s bestselling The Mortal Instruments!

With the truth about her family brought to light, Clary just wants to find a way to return to as normal a life as possible. But with Downworlders being killed around the city and Jace in serious trouble, it might be time for her to stand up and grab the power she never even knew she had inside her… The suspense keeps building! What will happen to these beloved characters, brought to life by Cassandra Jean’s lush artwork and beautiful colour illustrations? Includes a brand-new, exclusive scene written by Cassandra Clare!
