To Be Read: March 2025

After having such a great January reading-wise, I’ve been feeling a little burn out during February. I’ve fallen behind on blog posts and a lack of motivation to write reviews has been a real issue. I don’t have any ARCs to read during March, unless I decide to start some really early. I also still have Kindle Unlimited as something messed up on my Kindle and I got three months for free.

One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

I’ve been meaning to read this book for literally years and years. I’ve owned it for quite a while now in both ebook and audiobook formats, but I’m leaning more towards the audiobook. Especially as I’ve just found out that Robbie Daymond is one of the narrators. That’s given me the push to finally start this series.

I already have this entire series in audiobook form so let’s hope I enjoy the first instalment.

Synopsis: Pay close attention and you might solve this.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.

Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.

Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.

Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.

Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.

And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

Trick Me Not by Danielle Keil

This is the book I’ve been looking forward to most in this series. I could have started with it as technically they’re all standalones, but I like to read them in publication order.

We all know just how much I love a fake dating book so I’m intrigued to see what this will be like. It’s a high school romance so I’m expecting it to be sweet, more To All The Boys I Loved Before not The Love Hypothesis. Very cute, very clean but with a fairytale retelling twist.

Synopsis: At Fairview-Teller High, light mixes with dark. Good with evil. And heroes with villains. But there’s a reason the students call it Fairy Tale High. They’ll get their happily ever after, even if they have to fight for it.

When Sylvie’s foster brother finds out she’s being bullied, he calls all of his friends in for support. They decide to be her protectors, with the Lone Wolf, Luke Conri, taking the lead.

During the next run-in with the bully, Luke accidentally calls Sylvie his girlfriend. And thanks to social media, the whole school now knows.

Luke and Sylvie agree to pretend to date in order to keep Sylvie safe. Neither of them is looking for a real relationship, anyway.

Besides, Luke is Sylvie’s brother’s best friend… she can’t date him for real, right?

But what happens when the truth about Sylvie and the bully finally comes out?

Will it ruin everything for Luke and Sylvie?

Descender, Vol. 1: Tin Stars by Jeff Lemire & Dustin Nguyen

Is it just me or does the character design on this cover look like the little girl from The Creator? I get that they’re both android children so there would be some similarities I guess, but was The Creator inspired by this graphic novel? The writer of the film has claimed it isn’t based on any previous material but..?

Anyway, I’m intrigued by this graphic novel. I’ve had a quick look at the inside and the art style looks very interesting.

Synopsis: Young Robot boy TIM-21 and his companions struggle to stay alive in a universe where all androids have been outlawed and bounty hunters lurk on every planet. Written by award-winning creator, Jeff Lemire, Descender is a rip-roaring and heart-felt cosmic odyssey. Lemire pits humanity against machine, and world against world, to create a sprawling epic. Collecting issues #1-6 of Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Trillium) and Dustin Nguyen’s (Little Gotham) critically acclaimed, bestselling new science fiction series!
