It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written one of these. Well in reality it’s only been a couple of months but it feels like a long time. The reason for this often being I’ve either forgotten what I’ve watched or I spend my entire month watching YouTube videos – my current obsession is miniminuteman. I’d watched a few of his videos a while ago, but I’ve really gotten into them recently.
The Legend of Vox Machina (rewatch)
After I watched the first three episodes of season 4, my boyfriend finally decided he wanted to watch this show. He’d watched The Mighty Nein with me last year, and he also watched the start of campaign three, so he’s no stranger to Critical Role. Because of this, I still haven’t finished season four, but we are now a few episodes into season three together, so it won’t be long before we finish the whole show.
For those interested, he likes The Legend of Vox Machina, but like me, prefers The Mighty Nein. It’s been fun watching it together though as I love seeing him react to big moments or answering any questions he has.
I’ve talked about this show a few times over the years so I don’t feel like I’d have anything new to say about the first three seasons. I’ll write a mini review of season four once we get around to it.
Synopsis: After saving the realm from evil and destruction at the hands of the most terrifying power couple in Exandria, Vox Machina is faced with saving the world once again-this time, from a sinister group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave.
Heartstopper Forever
This part of this post contains spoilers for Heartstopper Forever, if you haven’t watched the film yet, please skip this section.
Before I watched Heartstopper Forever, I did a re-watch of season three as I’d only seen it once and I wanted a refresher. I was also a little in denial about it all ending.
Now, going into this film, I knew most of what would happen as I’d read Volume Six beforehand and I knew it would be a pretty true adaptation. It made me feel hopeful that Heartstopper would end in a beautifully romantic way, but the way they changed the story actually made me a little upset. I know films need some kind of drama to keep viewers interested, but I feel like Heartstopper fans wouldn’t mind a film that is purely cute and fluffy. There was a little bit of drama in the graphic novel anyway, Nick and Charlie didn’t need to break up. They’ve always been good at communicating, just have them talk it out.
Anyway, that’s just me wanting to see them be happy for an entire hour and half before it’s all over. I get why they did it though.
I spent a lot of this film just actively sobbing. As soon as Nellie came on screen I started crying as the dog who played her, Echo, passed away a few months ago. And obviously there are a lot of emotional scenes.
This film was a bittersweet ending to the Heartstopper story but I’m going to silently hope that this isn’t the end of these characters. I really wish they’d either incorporated Solitaire into the show or did a spin-off as Tori wasn’t a character we really got to know. Also, there’s still the Nick and Charlie novella.
Synopsis: Nick and Charlie are in love, but new challenges lay ahead with Nick getting ready to leave for university and Charlie taking on new responsibilities at school.
