2023 has been my second year of reviewing every book I read and it really shows in the amount of books I’ve read. Every single month my wrap-up posts have been, let’s be honest, absurdly long and I know full well I wouldn’t cram as many books in if I wasn’t posting daily. It sounds like I’m complaining about that, but I’m really not.
My year in books
Once again, last year has been my best reading year to date. I find it quite ridiculous that I finished so many books and honestly, I don’t know where I found the time. I work full time and basically blog full time. Crazy.
I feel like I didn’t read as many novellas and graphic novels last year, but I could be wrong.
Also, for some reason, my number of pages on Goodreads is more than 1000 less than what StoryGraph is saying. Which is weird.
Moods and genres
Well, I definitely have more moods this year and I would like to think my reading was a bit more diverse this year. I used to just stick to fantasy books, but I do try to read different types of books. Although I will say, I never check the moods of books so this is purely accidental.
Apparently, LGBTQIA+ is a genre and I really said let’s make it almost a quarter of my read books. I will say this wasn’t accidental, I’ve really been on the lookout for romance books that aren’t white straight couples and it’s been great.
It comes as no surprise that YA is my most read genre, what is surprising is that fantasy isn’t. I didn’t realise just how much of a break from the genre I took this year, I fell into a real slump with it. Romance and contemporaries were my saving grace.
Ratings and reviews
My average rating is actually pretty positive considering I read quite a few bad books last year. I didn’t have a ton of five star reads, in comparison to how many books I read, so I’m not surprised it isn’t mega high, I did think I had a lot of four star reads. Apparently not.
I don’t know the exact amount of reviews I wrote last year as I’ve only posted one from December so far, but it must be over 100. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be reading and reviewing so many books. Today is actually my 542nd day in a row of posting. No one thought I’d be able to keep it up while working full time but I have definitely proved them wrong.
I’m so proud of how far this blog has come in the last couple of years and I still love writing for it just as much as I did in the beginning. I have some really fun posts planned for this year and I can’t wait to share them with you all.
Alright, that’s enough being soppy for one post. Let me know how many books you read in 2023 and what your top genres were!
