Well 2024 was an interesting year to say the least. It hasn’t been my best both quality and quantity wise. I read less books, had more DNFs and my average rating is down by almost 0.10. I didn’t keep track of my DNFs in 2023 so I’m not sure how they compare, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t have more than 10, which is how many I had in 2024. I’ll go into more detail on that and other stats in the sections below.
Overall stats

130 books read
So technically I actually only finished 120 books, but that was 10 over my goal of 110. The only reason why I increased my challenge to 130 books was to counteract the ones I DNF’d but only after writing this post have I realised I had 11 DNFs not 10 like I thought. So techncially I’m only 9 over my initial goal. Oh well.
I’ve decided to use The StoryGraph as my main challenge for 2025 so I will be including DNFs. I will still be using my Goodreads account as I prefer the reviewing system and I actually have friends and followers on Goodreads. That’s basically a cheeky plug to tell you to add me on StoryGraph, I only have a few friends on it and I’d really like to expand that.
I’m not going to talk about the amount of pages read, despite it being one of my main goals for the year. There’s no way of ensuring it’s accuracy without me keeping note of the amount of pages I got through before DNF’ing a book. I could have easily done this but the second I decide to stop reading a book I don’t want to open it ever again.
Moods and genres
Unsurprisingly my top moods for 2024 are lighthearted and funny. These two are usually my top moods as I don’t tend to read a lot of dark books. I’ve also strayed from fantasy a lot this year so my top genre was romance. Again, I’m not surprised by this. The thing I’m most surprised about is that thriller wasn’t a top genre. I thought I’d read quite a few this year but apparently not.
DNFs
I had my most ever DNFs in 2024, 11 books unfinished. I’m starting to realise just how precious my reading time actually is and I don’t want to waste it on books I’m not enjoying. When you’re creating daily content, with at least half of your content being reviews, you really don’t have time to spend more than a week on one book. Some books I DNF’d because I couldn’t get into them and they were taking longer than expected to get through, others had genuinely problematic content.
Here are the books I DNF’d in 2024:
- The Frame-Up by Gwenda Bond
- The Princess Fugitive by Melanie Cellier
- By the Book by Jasmine Guillory
- How to Find a Missing Girl by Victoria Wlosok
- Like a Charm by Kerry Barrett
- One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
- Of Blood and Roses by Georgiana Kent
- The Lending Library by Aliza Fogelson
- The Happiness Project by Kirstie Pelling
- Circling Back to You by Julie Tieu
- Not in a Million Years by Sophie Ranald
Ratings and reviews
My average rating dropped a fair amount in 2024. With an average of 3.24 I wouldn’t say I had a bad year quality wise as a three star read is still pretty good in my opinion. However, I did have a lot of one and two star reads that massively impacted that score. Maybe if I stop include DNFs my average rating will be higher this time next year? We’ll have to wait and find out.
I posted 132 reviews in 2024 which works out at just over a third of my total content for the year. I’ve now posted over 900 days in a row which is a crazy amount of content and is almost two and a half years of posting every day in a row. I love this blog so much and I’m so proud of how far it has come in that time. Thank you so much to every one that read even one piece of content from me in that time, I appreciate every single one of you.
