Audiobook Review: A Walk in the Park by Rebekah Weatherspoon

Synopsis:

Andre Monroe is ready to move on from heartbreak, and the first step is bringing home his rescue pup. Heโ€™d bonded instantly with the playful Zeus and was already planning their first adventures. But one thing he definitely hadnโ€™t daydreamed about was Zeus accidentally being promised to someone else – or that he might go home empty-handed and brokenhearted all over again.

Janelle Johnson is not giving up her claim to Zeus. He already has a hold on her heart (and his own Instagram handle). After the year sheโ€™d had, she needed this dog. But when she sees the disappointment of the big, burly handsome man whoโ€™s clearly just as in love with the dog as she is, she proposes a deal to Andre – for one month theyโ€™ll co-parent the dog. How hard could it be?

Both of them agree to the unusual arrangement. Sharing a dog with a complete stranger isnโ€™t quite the walk in the (dog) park they imagined, but as they work together to give Zeus a loving future, their four-legged friend might not be the only one whoโ€™s found a happily ever after.

Review:

A Walk in the Park was honestly one of the better Audible Originals novellas. The premise of this was really cute and I definitely fell in love with Zeus the second he was introduced.

It was great, for once, to read a book with plus-sized main characters. Especially black ones, I feel like this is an area in romance books that is massively underrepresented. If you have any recommendations that are similar I am definitely down for some!

Both Janelle and Andre were very likable and I love how they were both artists, but in different fields. The shared connection they have because of their art is very sweet and I liked how even though Andre was a well-known artist he wasnโ€™t at all arrogant. They were both normal people and it was quite refreshing.

I love a bit of insta-love and thatโ€™s exactly what I got. Although I wouldnโ€™t say it was completely insta-love as they didnโ€™t say that four-letter word. If anything it was a somewhat normal amount of time for people to get into a relationship. They both admitted they liked each other within a few days of meeting and then a week or two later they got together. Nothing wrong with that if you ask me.

One thing I will say about the romance parts of A Walk in the Park is when they started โ€œgetting it onโ€ I was not expecting it to be so explicit. I donโ€™t have a problem with this, but the rest of the book was quite sweet so I wasnโ€™t expecting such adult content. This is one of my issues with Audible, they donโ€™t put age ratings on books (at least not on the app) and the cartoon style of these book covers does make them look more for younger audiences. Maybe itโ€™s just me with that opinion.

Honestly, if you have a spare two hours I really would recommend A Walk in the Park, it was a solid read/listen.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
