Audiobook Review: Booked for the Holidays by Liz Maverick

Synopsis:

When mystery author D. B. Ziegler is late delivering her book, Abi Schore steps in to help. Surely she can give her favorite author moral support over the holiday break and get the manuscript to her boss at Tea & Sympathy Publishing in time for the new year.

When Abi shows up on Ms. Zieglerโ€™s doorstep bearing holiday treats, sheโ€™s met by the authorโ€™s handsome grandson Dov, who reveals a startling plot twist. His grandmother isnโ€™t able to finish the book and Dov promised heโ€™d complete it so fans wonโ€™t be disappointedโ€”a task thatโ€™s harder than he ever imagined.

As Hanukkah unfolds, Abi and Dov cozy up in his grandmotherโ€™s brownstone apartment working their way through his writerโ€™s block and untangling plot threads. Before long, the novel starts taking shape … and so does their simmering attraction. Will their own story end once the book is written, or is this just the first chapter?

Review:

Itโ€™s not the run up to the festive season without a Liz Maverick audiobook and Booked for the Holidays is my favourite so far. It had the best narration, story and characters out of the three Iโ€™ve read.

I love that Booked for the Holidays didnโ€™t try to do too much. It was a short story that took place across less than a week and while that seems quick for two people to fall in love, they did literally spend every minute together. I didnโ€™t actually love the romance parts of it though, I felt like they were better suited for friendship that could blossom into a relationship. However, none of the random sexually objectifying from Liz Maverickโ€™s other festive audiobooks made it into this one, so thatโ€™s a win.

The plot of Booked for the Holidays was also the strongest of the three. I loved that it wasnโ€™t primarily about romance. The main focus was Dov fulfilling his promise to his late grandmother to finish her final book. I also really enjoyed all of the baking, which is related to the books. Such a lovely way to celebrate his grandmotherโ€™s life.

If youโ€™re a hardcore romance lover, this probably isnโ€™t the book for you. Even though itโ€™s only 3 hours long, itโ€™s a slow burn. Kinda. As I said at the start this book takes place over less than a week so thatโ€™s not really a slow burn but they donโ€™t show romantic interest in each other until near the end. So not a ton of romance going on. It is very sweet though and thereโ€™s a very cute dog.

Booked for the Holidays has easily won the title of โ€˜best festive audiobook Iโ€™ve listened to this yearโ€™.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
