The January book sales were not as impressive as I’d hoped they’d be. I was hoping at least a few of the books on my wish list would go down in price as I now have over 100 books on it. Sadly not. I did, however, treat myself to the special editions of Good Girl, Bad Blood and As Good As Dead as I’ve had the first book for a while now and wanted to complete the collection. Also, when I say ‘treated myself’ I actually used an Amazon voucher I won at work to buy them so technically they were free.
Dungeons and Drama by Kristy Boyce
I’ve had my eye on this book for quite a while now and it finally went on sale. If I can mix three of my favourite things (books, music and D&D) I’m insanely happy. Also, the fact that this is a romance book makes it even better. I’ve become such a romancer read in the past few years, more so than fantasy.
I’ve read actual Dungeons & Dragons books before but never a non fantasy that includes the game itself. I hope there’s whole sections that’s just them playing out the game – possibly the nerdiest thing I’ve ever said but I love playing D&D.
Synopsis: Musical lover Riley has big aspirations to become a director on Broadway. Crucial to this plan is to bring back her high school’s spring musical, but when Riley takes her mom’s car without permission, she’s grounded and stuck with the worst punishment: spending her after-school hours working at her dad’s game shop.
Riley can’t waste her time working when she has a musical to save, so she convinces Nathan—a nerdy teen employee—to cover her shifts and, in exchange, she’ll flirt with him to make his gamer-girl crush jealous.
But Riley didn’t realize that meant joining Nathan’s Dungeons & Dragons game…or that role playing would be so fun. Soon, Riley starts to think that flirting with Nathan doesn’t require as much acting as she would’ve thought…
Spectacular by Stephanie Garber
I audibly gasped when I saw an ad for this book on YouTube. I don’t follow Stephanie Garber on any socials so I had no idea this was a thing. I wish it had been on sale closer to Christmas as this is a festive book and it would feel wrong to read it at any other time of year. So I’m not sure if I’ll wait til the end of this year to check it out, or if I’ll cave and read it in the next few months.
Synopsis: Snowflakes are falling.
Invitations are arriving.
And holiday magic is swirling in the capital city of the Meridian Empire.
It’s Great Holiday Eve Eve. Scarlett Dragna is planning a spectacular Holiday celebration for the city. Donatella is searching for the perfect gift. Julian is looking ridiculously handsome in green. And Legend . . .
Well, sadly Legend is not fond of the Great Holiday. Tella is hoping her perfect gift will change his mind. Unfortunately, she hasn’t found this perfect gift just yet. But it is Great Holiday Eve Eve . . . surely there’s some holiday magic swirling around.
Welcome, welcome back to the world of Caraval, where even holidays are not as they seem.
Threads That Bind by Kika Hatzopoulou
This book sounds so cool and the cover is stunning (no picture yet sorry). I actually bought the second book in the series at the same time as they were both just 99p on Kindle.
I love a book inspired by Greek mythology, as I’m sure most of you know by now, so I’m excited to check this out at some point. Also, this is a new author for me and I love discovering new authors.
Synopsis: In a world where the children of the gods inherit their powers, a descendant of the Greek Fates must solve a series of impossible murders to save her sisters, her soulmate, and her city.
Descendants of the Fates are always born in threes: one to weave, one to draw, and one to cut the threads that connect people to the things they love and to life itself. The Ora sisters are no exception. Io, the youngest, uses her Fate-born abilities as a private investigator in the half-sunken city of Alante.
But her latest job leads her to a horrific discovery: somebody is abducting women, maiming their life-threads, and setting the resulting wraiths loose in the city to kill. To find the culprit, she must work alongside Edei Rhuna, the right hand of the infamous Mob Queen—and the boy with whom she shares a rare fate-thread linking them as soul mates before they’ve even met.
But the investigation turns personal when Io’s estranged oldest sister turns up on the arm of her best suspect. Amid unveiled secrets from her past and her growing feelings for Edei, Io must follow clues through the city’s darkest corners and unearth a conspiracy that involves some of the city’s most powerful players—before destruction comes to her own doorstep.
