Book Haul: May 2023

I’ve actually been pretty well-behaved in May and I’ve only brought two books, one of which was with an audible credit, so does it really count as spending money? I’m on a huge organising kick at the moment so I’ve stayed away from the temptation of cheap books in The Works, let’s see how long that lasts shall we? I give it a couple of weeks before I cave.

It’s Not Summer Without You (Summer #2) by Jenny Han

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I’m fully intending to read the entire series in audio form. Having the cast narrate it really is the best thing and this time it’s not just Lola, but also Gavin as I believe the second book is about both of them.

I’m definitely adding this to my July to be read as I want to read it before the second season starts coming out.

Synopsis: Belly finds out what comes after falling in love in this follow-up to The Summer I Turned Pretty from the New York Times bestselling author of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (soon to be a major motion picture!), Jenny Han.

Can summer be truly summer without Cousins Beach?

It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come.

But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be. If this summer really and truly is the last summer, it should end the way it started—at Cousins Beach.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

I wasn’t sure at first if I’d like this as that stupid little Tiktok sticker always puts me off books, but it was on offer so I caved. I’ve actually already read this, which is a rarity when I talk about books in these posts, but I’ve wanted to watch the film for a while and I can’t do that without reading it first.

Synopsis: Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.

Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.
