Book Review: Fated Throne by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

Synopsis:

Fate has torn us apart and sometimes I believe the stars have given up on us altogether.

Without my sister, the world seems darker than ever before and the shadows loom thicker, rising up to answer the call of the Shadow Princess and changing the face of Solaria for good.

Now Lionel Acrux has the strength to make a move for the throne, Iโ€™m not sure how much time we have left to stop him.

Our only hope is to find the Imperial Star before he does. We made the sacrifice the stars called for and weโ€™re paying the price for that decision so it canโ€™t be for nothing. But with the stars turning against us at every move, and the last light in the world seeming to fade, Iโ€™m afraid weโ€™re almost out of time. Hope is a dangerous thing. Itโ€™s the key to us fighting on. But it could be what destroys us in the end.

One thing is for certain, I wonโ€™t stop until I have been reunited with my other half and together we will fight to take our crowns.

A war is coming.

The throne is calling for a new monarch. And someone must answer its call.

Review:

Reading this book has been a long time coming and when I say I almost didnโ€™t finish it, Iโ€™m telling the truth. The first half of Fated Throne is an absolute slog to get through. There are so many pointless chapters and the story isnโ€™t moving at a pace I enjoy. Iโ€™m all for building your world and letting the readers get to know the characters, but weโ€™re now on book six and itโ€™s only the second year of school.

Iโ€™m not completely opposed to a slow story as I donโ€™t want anything to be rushed. I actually wouldnโ€™t mind this if there werenโ€™t so many pointless chapters (more on this further in the review).

So many words in these books are changed to include the word fae or something related and I hate it. Iโ€™m surprised they donโ€™t call coffee coffae.

I do like this series and it does have an interesting storyline but it is obvious it relies heavily on smut. Which is possibly why itโ€™s so popular. I donโ€™t know, as I said I do like it. However, considering it does rely on adult themes, the jokes are extremely juvenile. I found the odd one funny to begin with like Darcy and Toryโ€™s followers being called the A.S.S (Almighty Sovereign Society) but there are just too many jokes like that now. I also hate how Geraldine talks. It was kind of funny at first but now itโ€™s really annoying.

This brings me to my next point of there being too many chapters from characters I donโ€™t care about. Just give me Tory, Darcy, Darius and Orion. They are the main players in the story, we donโ€™t need chapters from anyone else. They make Fated Throne ridiculously long and the length of the last few instalments have been putting me off continuing. I considered leaving the series unfinished because each instalment keeps getting longer by at least 100 pages. Itโ€™s crazy.ย

As always though, I really like these characters and Iโ€™m enjoying seeing their dynamics evolve. I particularly liked the bond between Darcy and Darius in this instalment, that was very sweet to see.

I didnโ€™t completely hate Fated Throne, probably the opposite. But the ending really did save it. Getting halfway through and feeling like not a lot has happened is never good, but the pace does pick up and some very interesting things happen. They definitely got me with the twist and I will be continuing the series at some point. Just not any time soon as I will need to mentally prepare myself for another 700+ page book.ย

Rating: 4 out of 5.
