Synopsis:

Get ready for a bewitching tale of love, laughter, and supernatural shenanigans in the heart of Maple Hollow with Pumpkin Spice & Poltergeist!

The last thing apothecary witch, Jordyn, had on her mind was romance, but when she got witchy-wasted, she cracked open the coffin of her love life and conjured the ghost of her ex-girlfriend. Jordyn is in for a spell of trouble now that the snarky specter is determined to haunt her until she finds someone new.

Enter Harlow, the new girl in town, who just wants a job in her sisterโ€™s cafe but she discovers that the spooky town of Maple Hollow is more than just a gimmick. Real magic lives here. But after run-ins with vampires and one too many grave cafe blunders, she’s ready to hop on a broomstick and fly out of town. Until she finds herself falling under the spell of the enchanting witch who asks her on a date.

As sparks fly and cauldrons bubble, will this unlikely pair brew up a love potion that defies the ghostly odds? Or will Jordyn’s shade-y ex be the ultimate buzzkill to their budding romance?

Review:

I decided to read Pumpkin Spice & Poltergeist as I thought it would be a fun, quick read to round off the spooky season and I was right. This was a very fun book and I absolutely adored Maple Hollow. Iโ€™m 100% going to check out the other books in this series.

The coffee shop and the apothecary were my favourite places in Maple Hollow (so far). Thatโ€™s partly because they are where you spend most of the book, but coffee shops are some of my favourite places in real life and apothecaries are extremely witchy and I love witchy things. What would have made the coffee shop even better is if it was a witchy coffee shop, the name โ€˜the witchโ€™s brewโ€™ made me hope it was but actually itโ€™s owned by one of the only humans in Maple Hollow.

Anyway, I liked both of the main characters and I feel like their personalities had a good โ€˜opposites attractโ€™ going on. Harlow was sarky and confident, and Jordyn was sweet and a little shy. Their backstories were unfortunately a little rushed and so was their relationship but the jokes about sapphic couples moving very fast were funny.

The concept of Pumpkin Spice & Poltergeist was really interesting, the idea of summoning your exโ€™s ghost and having it stick around is both horrific and hilarious. Thinking about Jordyn arguing with someone no one else can see is too funny.

The story moved extremely fast, which took time away from character background and development, but I try to not take cosy mysteries too seriously as theyโ€™re supposed to be fun and fluffy. Thatโ€™s definitely what Pumpkin Spice & Poltergeist was. The conflict and its resolution came round very quickly and while tiny clues were sprinkled throughout, you werenโ€™t given any reason to suspect the culprit. Letโ€™s just say itโ€™s a surprise as they arenโ€™t a big part of the story.

However as this a witchy/paranormal sapphic romance Iโ€™m easily pleased. I didnโ€™t mind that the mystery was slightly lacking as I enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters. Iโ€™m hoping the next book is about the coffee shop owner (Harlowโ€™s sister) and the werewolf baker that is clearly in love with her.

Iโ€™d highly recommend you check out Pumpkin Spice & Poltergeist if you want a quick, fun and easy read that is available through Kindle Unlimited.
