Synopsis:
The October Faction details the adventures of retired monster-hunter Frederick Allan and his family, which include a thrill-killer, a witch, and a warlock. Because sometimes crazy is the glue that binds a family together.
Review:
I’d heard of the show adaptation of this but have never checked it out. It’s been sitting on my list on Netflix for years now. I thought I’d check out the graphic novel first as I actually didn’t know it was one. Also, this is available with Kindle Unlimited.
This was ok. I found the story quite hard to follow and there was no pretence as to what was going on. I do like it sometimes when graphic novels jump straight into the action, but this was confusing. I understand that they were monster hunters but nothing else about the family was explained.
The art style was very interesting, nothing like anything I’ve ever seen before. The harsh angles and gothic settings lent well to the theme of the graphic novel and I thought it was very fun. I’m a big fan of dark gothic art styles and this one is probably one of my favourites. The character designs were impressive and I liked the particle effect used on each frame.
I don’t really have much else to say about October Faction as it was a pretty short graphic novel. There was a decent amount of story progression and I imagine everything becomes more clear in the next volume. I may check it out at some point, but it does feel like a spooky season read.
