Synopsis:
On October 16, 2013, 437 students, 52 teachers, and 24 additional staff from Bay Point Preparatory High School in suburban Milwaukee, WI vanished without a trace. Countless light years away, far outside the bounds of the charted universe, 513 people find themselves in the middle of an ancient, primordial wilderness. Where are they? Why are they there? The answers will prove stranger than anyone could possibly imagine.
Review:
Iโm always on the lookout for new graphic novel series and when The Woods popped up on Kindle Unlimited, I thought it looked right up my street. Unfortunately, Iโm not too sure what I think of it so far. I think I will continue reading this at some point but only because I can read for โfreeโ with Kindle Unlimited, I donโt think Iโd pay outright for it.
I did like the art style but there wasnโt anything special about it. Itโs pretty much a classic style for graphic novels. The only parts that stood out were the environments and the colour scheme. The sci-fi vibes were definitely there and it felt obvious at all times that youโre on a different planet.
Iโd say not a lot really happened in volume 1 of The Woods. The story focuses more on the politics of the situation rather than finding answers for whatโs going on. Iโm definitely intrigued to find out more but I do wish this first volume gave you more information.
The cast of characters seem ok so far, but as always in teen and YA media, the adults are useless. One of them commits accidental murder after giving students the order to bully other students into line. Not a great group of adults to supervise over 400 teens on an alien planet.
Overall, Iโd say The Woods Volume 1 has piqued my interest enough to continue the series in the future, but thereโs nothing particularly special about it.
