Best character

I don’t really have a choice for this episode as it’s not one of the best. Glenn has some funny moments, but him trying to force America’s “greatness” on non-American employees was not great.

Best quotes and one liners

GLENN: All right, it’s been an exciting 17 days of our Olympic promotion. A couple of hiccups there at the beginning, what with the inferno. Anyway, uh, we’re not gonna have any accidents today during my closing ceremony.

DINA: Oh, no. Absolutely not. Not happening. No, your ceremony was not only reckless, it was lame, and that’s worse.

GLENN: Like you could do better.

DINA: If I gave a crap.

GLENN: Well, crap away, lady.

GLENN: Organic apples are on sale today. Make sure the customers know, and also, uh, Olympian Missy Jones is appearing in-store.

AMY: Wait, Missy Jones? The gold medal-winning gymnast Missy Jones? Seriously?

CHEYENNE: I used to do gymnastics when I was little. It wasn’t at the Olympics, though. It was at Bev’s Tumble Palace.

DINA: Do you have access to a team of white stallions?

GLENN: It’s the Olympics! It’s all about rooting for your country and saying all the other countries eat beans.

JONAH: Well, but it’s, it’s also about the countries coming together, you know? That’s why the rings are interlocked.

GLENN: Oh, I thought it was just a symbol. I didn’t know it symbolized something.

DINA: And there he is. Mr. Cool Guy Garrett, who doesn’t care about anything. Well, you know what? I’m not cool. I don’t know how to play the trumpet. I don’t wear tie-dye shirts.

GARRETT: You think those things are cool?

Final thoughts and fun facts

This episode does not follow continuity. It was a one-off special episode for the Olympics on NBC, which is why Cheyenne is still pregnant. I was contemplating whether to actually review it or not because it is all over the place and doesn’t really count as an episode.

Amy mentions Barbie in this episode, which is now quite funny because she was one of the main characters in the Barbie movie.

The female Cloud 9 customer who tries on a black jacket is McKayla Maroney, American former artistic gymnast, famous for her “not impressed” facial expression. Her expression became an Internet meme and she recreates it in the show, acting like she is not impressed with the outfit. Maroney competed in the 2012 Olympics.

Multiple Olympic athletes are featured in this episode’s transition scenes. Speed skater Apolo Ohno is customer trapped in an aisle by an old lady’s cart. Figure skater Tara Lipinski is customer who “slips” and spins. Gymnast McKayla Maroney is the customer trying on a black jacket doing her infamous side smile.

The mannequin that burns is the same one that Amy used to mock Jonah in the episode called Mannequin.

Amy wears a different name tag in each episode. This episode, her name tag says “Gemma.”

At the end of every episode the card for the production company Spitzer Holding Company features a variety of items they specialise in. In this episode they list Gold Coins, Silver Bullion, and Baby Shoe Bronzing. This also a reference to the Olympic theme of the episode with the awarding of Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
