Middlebridge Mysteries 2 by Ken Cuperus
I hadn’t planned to do another one of these posts so soon, but when browsing Audible this popped up and I got quite excited. I really enjoyed book one and I thought Anna Cathcart was a very charismatic narrator.
If you haven’t checked out the first book yet, but you love XO, Kitty, this series feels like Kitty is trying to solve mysteries. Which I personally think is great.
Synopsis: Violet Wilner thinks she’s got it under control in her sophomore year of the highly competitive Criminology program at Middlebridge University. Now living off campus with best friend Bonnie, as well as unexpected house-guest and former roommate Krista, and still dating sweet football player Hunter, Violet’s social life is set. But between classes, the extra-curricular cold case project Professor Bellows recruited her and academic nemesis Stewart to work on, and daily life as a semi-adult, Violet’s got a lot going on. Still, she’s never too busy for a good mystery, and life at Middlebridge is more mysterious than ever. Violet finds herself drawn into more shady circumstances, but this year it gets personal. Between her own mom’s Middlebridge past, classmate Stewart in trouble and even Professor Bellows himself turned-prime suspect, the stakes have never been higher. And with that extra pressure, Violet’s juggling skills are put to the test, as she solves the crimes and catches the guilty, but at what cost to her? No good deed goes unpunished, as they say. A lesson Violet is about to learn the hard way.
Bookish with Benefits by Alia Smith
I’m always on the lookout for books about books so this feels like the perfect audiobook for me to check out soon. This one is available through the plus catalogue and isn’t an original. I’m hoping it will stay available for quite some time, but as it’s the only book by this author available with the subscription, I’d recommend checking it out soon.
Synopsis: His muse is missing. His manuscript is a mess. And his only hope? The woman who doesn’t believe in happily-ever-afters.
Lara Yates fixes love stories for a living, but she stopped believing in them a long time ago. As a sharp-tongued editor, she knows romance follows a formula, and real life rarely delivers the perfect ending.
Bestselling author Rory Keane, on the other hand, has built his career on happily-ever-afters—until he hits a creative wall. With a deadline looming and his book falling apart, he needs help, and Lara is the only one who can whip his manuscript (and him) into shape.
Their deal? She keeps him on track. He makes sure she has a little fun. No emotions, no complications, just late-night brainstorming sessions and strictly professional tension. But as the lines between fiction and reality blur, Lara and Rory are forced to ask is this just another story… or the start of something real?
It Happened One Heist by Shenee Howard
An audiobook narrated by Amber Riley? Yes please! I have a feeling listening to her voice will make me want to rewatch Glee again (only the first few seasons though as I didn’t enjoy it once they went to college).
I know absolutely nothing about this author, hadn’t heard of them until this popped up on Audible, but I do love a heist book so I’m excited to check this out in the near future.
Synopsis: Museum curator Amara Grant has big plans. Open a museum in Haiti plans. Return local artifacts to their country of origin plans. Getting fired from the prestigious museum she works at? Not part of the plan. But that’s exactly what happens when she discovers that a priceless set of bracelets on display are actually fake.
With her world turned upside down, the last thing she expects is to be approached by a wealthy benefactor offering the resources to track down the real bracelets. They’ll supply money to travel the world and manpower in the form of a mysterious bodyguard known only as Dante—a man who is as intriguing as he is infuriating.
Soon Amara and Dante are caught up in a web of black-market antiquities and secret societies as their treasure hunt takes them from Los Angeles to London, to the Scottish Highlands and Paris. As if their adventure isn’t daring enough, a powerful attraction ignites between them…and falling in love just might pose the greatest risk of all.
