This Wicked Fate by Kalynn Bayron

You’d have to be mad to not think this is a gorgeous cover. The bold colours are really what make it for me, well that and Briseis and Marie, looking absolutely stunning. I’m a huge fan of magenta and teal as a pairing and it works so well here.
Kalynn Bayron’s books always have gorgeous covers but I do think this one is my favourite. You can feel the magic of story and don’t get me started on how well done the lighting is. I’m not sure who created this cover, but hat’s off to them – almost good enough to replace Charlie Bowater as my favourite cover artist.
Synopsis: Briseis has one chance to save her mother, but she’ll need to do the impossible: find the last fragment of the deadly Absyrtus Heart. If she is to locate the missing piece, she must turn to the blood relatives she’s never known, learn about their secret powers, and take her place in their ancient lineage. Briseis is not the only one who wants the Heart, and her enemies will stop at nothing to fulfill their own ruthless plans. The fates tell of a truly dangerous journey, one that could end in more heartache, more death. Bolstered by the sisterhood of ancient magic, can Briseis harness her power to save the people she loves most?
The Cherished by Patricia Ward

So, I was sent an arc of this and I was blown away by the cover. I mean, just look at it. I’m a huge fan of covers that look hand drawn and I especially love the dragonflies (if that’s what they are). I’m obsessed. Unfortunately, I only got a few chapters in before putting it down. There was so much racism and really horrible comments about people with mental health issues.
It’s a shame that such a horrible book has been hidden behind a truly stunning cover. It’s probably not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think the artist did an amazing job.
Synopsis: Jo never expected to be placed in her absent grandmother’s will—let alone be left her house, her land, and a letter with mysterious demands.
Upon arriving at the inherited property, things are even more strange.
The tenants mentioned in the letter are odd, just slightly…off. Jo feels something dark and decrepit in the old shack behind the house. And the things that her father used to talk about, his delusions… Why is Jo starting to believe they might be real?
But what Jo fears most is the letter from her grandmother. Because if it’s true, then Jo belongs here, in this strange place. And she has no choice but to stay.
