I seem to have taken a bit of a break from thrillers and mysteries lately, which has been both conscious and subconscious. Firstly, they tend to be longer books, which are not my friend right now and I want to save them for the spooky season, which will be here in no time.
All Eyes on Us by Kit Frick

If you read my review of this book, you’d probably wonder why I’ve included it in this post. Well, the actual story was pretty good, I just made the mistake of listening to the audiobook when I know I don’t really like audiobooks.
I didn’t find the book very gripping in this format, probably because I have to listen at 2x speed to keep my focus. However, the twist wasn’t guessable, in my opinion.
Synopsis: PRIVATE NUMBER: Wouldn’t you look better without a cheater on your arm?
AMANDA: Who is this?
The daughter of small town social climbers, Amanda Kelly is deeply invested in her boyfriend, real estate heir Carter Shaw. He’s kind, ambitious, the town golden boy—but he’s far from perfect. Because behind Amanda’s back, Carter is also dating Rosalie.
PRIVATE NUMBER: I’m watching you, Sweetheart.
ROSALIE: Who IS this?
Rosalie Bell is fighting to remain true to herself and her girlfriend—while concealing her identity from her Christian fundamentalist parents. After years spent in and out of conversion “therapy,” her own safety is her top priority. But maintaining a fake, straight relationship is killing her from the inside.
When an anonymous texter ropes Amanda and Rosalie into a bid to take Carter down, the girls become collateral damage—and unlikely allies in a fight to unmask their stalker before Private uproots their lives.
PRIVATE NUMBER: You shouldn’t have ignored me. Now look what you made me do…
Extasia by Claire Legrand

This is a bit of a weird one. I loved how dark and twisted it was, but some elements were taken too far. If I’d read this now, I probably would have enjoyed them more, but back when this released I wasn’t feeling particularly happy with life, so that definitely made me dislike the darker and violent moments.
The plot of reclaiming power and finding your true family – found family is one of the best tropes.
Synopsis: Her name is unimportant.
All you must know is that today she will become one of the four saints of Haven. The elders will mark her and place the red hood on her head. With her sisters, she will stand against the evil power that lives beneath the black mountain–an evil which has already killed nine of her village’s men.
She will tell no one of the white-eyed beasts that follow her. Or the faceless gray women tall as houses. Or the girls she saw kissing in the elm grove.
Today she will be a saint of Haven. She will rid her family of her mother’s shame at last and save her people from destruction. She is not afraid. Are you?
