What I Watched: August 2025

Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home & No Way Home

I don’t talk about this very often, but I’m a huge Spider-Man fan. He’s been my favourite superhero since I was a kid (I was obsessed with the 90s animated series) and I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am for the new film next year.

After seeing the teaser and photos of the filming online, I got a sudden craving to watch the Tom Holland trilogy, which I own on DVD as I have every single Spider-Man film on DVD. I love every single Spider-Man film and obviously the Tobey Maguire trilogy is very special to me as it’s the one I watched growing up, but Tom Holland is my favourite Spider-Man. Special shoutout to Andrew Garfield, just because. No seriously, I love the first Amazing Spider-Man film. I’ve seen it easily six times. Probably more.

I didn’t do a big binge and watch all of the films in one day. I spread them across three days because I’m an adult and I have responsibilities (boo). I’ve also been re-watching Jacksepticeye’s playthrough of Spider-Man 2, which sadly I can’t play myself as I don’t have a Playstation 5. Spider-Man was quite literally all I could think about or watch for a solid week.

Homecoming synopsis: A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man begins to navigate his newfound identity as web-slinging superhero Spider-Man. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark. Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine–distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man–but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Daddy Issues

I had really high hopes for this show as I think Aimee Lou Wood is an excellent comedy actor and just an actor in general. She really carried this show. The guy that plays her dad was quite funny as well but the character was so weird. Which I guess is the whole point of the show.

If this gets a season two, I really hope Gemma and Xander get together, it’s hinted at heavily throughout and they have great chemistry. The whole episode that focuses on Gemma trying to ‘find a dad’ for her baby was so frustrating when Xander was right there and he’s actually a decent guy. I won’t be distraught if they don’t get together as sitcoms love a slow burn, but they’d be so cute – not that she needs a man, obviously.

Synopsis: Weekend partier in Manchester, Gemma’s life turns upside down after a vacation encounter leaves her pregnant. She must simultaneously handle her pregnancy and help her sad dad Malcolm following his marriage’s collapse.

Friday Night Dinner

This is such a random show for me to watch in 2025. Well, not really as it is genuinely one of the best British sitcoms of all time, but it is a bit of a strange choice. This basically came about because my boyfriend and I were discussing sitcoms after seeing an ad for a newer one and thinking ‘was that supposed to be funny?’. We’re both convinced that there hasn’t been a decent sitcom in the last couple of years. If you don’t agree with that statement, please tell me which sitcoms you’ve been watching.

Friday Night Dinner is one of those shows that you find yourself quoting on a daily basis. It’s almost painfully British so I have no idea if anyone outside of the UK has seen it, but it’s so good. This is my current ‘have it on in the background’ show.

Synopsis: The titular mealtime is anything but normal for brothers Adam and Jonny Goodman, siblings in an eccentric Jewish family who return home each week for free eats. When they’re not busy playing pranks on each other, they’re breaking bread with their parents: father Martin likes to stroll around shirtless and collect science magazines, while mom Jackie is obsessed with “MasterChef” and tries her best to inject an air of normalcy into the insanity that always ensues. And of course, supper just wouldn’t be the same without an appearance from Jim, a creepy neighbor whose frequent visits elevate him to “stalker” status.

I’ve also been keeping up with season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty but I won’t talk about that in detail until next month’s post as the whole season will be out by then. Just know though, the Conrad episode was STUNNING. Beautifully shot, the acting was top tier (from Chris and Lola) and Conrad is my boy. Belly doesn’t deserve him but Conrad loves Belly and he deserves whatever he wants.

I have to tell you about my favourite channel to watch on YouTube at the moment. My boyfriend and I have been watching Lifelikecharlie’s ‘Walkies and Wee Wees’ series for a few months now and it makes us both so happy. He does really lovely walks with his two rescue Podencos, Monkey and Nala, and it’s just the most wholesome thing ever. We actually want to rescue a Podenco once our puppy is a little older. Anyway, if you love dogs and beautiful settings (he lives in Barcelona) you should absolutely check out his channel!

I genuinely cannot remember if I watched anything else. I’ve not really been watching a lot of TV recently. Just one Marvel film takes up my entire evening so I’m not surprised I don’t have anything else to talk about. I’ll try my best to keep better track of what I’ve been watching next month.
