At the start of December I fully expected this post to be filled with all of the festive films and TV shows I usually watch during the Christmas period. Well, I didn’t feel festive at all and I had no desire to watch anything evenly remotely Christmassy other than a few different vlogmasses on YouTube – shocking for me, I usually start watching Christmas films in November. The only ones I did watch were on Christmas day themselves and that’s because I stayed with family. The Christmas spirit did not reach me in 2025, I didn’t even finish any vlogmasses which is becoming a yearly occurrence.
Anyway, here are the two shows I watched during December. This month’s post is pretty short as I spent more time reading than anything else.
The Mighty Nein season one
I was going to write an in depth review of what I thought of season one this month, but I think I need to do a rewatch first. When watching weekly episodes I find it hard to gather my thoughts, but one thing is clear. I loved this. Even my boyfriend, who never watched the campaign, really enjoyed the show.
Synopsis: When a powerful arcane relic known as The Beacon falls into dangerous hands, a group of fugitives and outcasts, bound by secrets and scars, must learn to work together to save the realm and stop reality itself from unravelling.
The Buccaneers season one
If you’re looking for something to fill the void either before or after Bridgerton season four, this is the show for you. I wouldn’t say they have completely similar vibes but if you happen to have read Reputation by Lex Croucher, it really reminds me of that. Before you say anything, I know this is based on a book by Edith Wharton.
I went into this show already biased towards Guy as I love Matthew Broome but I know I made the right choice. I really don’t like Theo (the character, I have nothing against the actor). Not only is he a little controlling, but his views on women suck. He makes a few comments throughout the season about where women belong and how they should behave and that sucks. Plus he definitely uses his title to make Nan feel like she’s less than him.
This may be a strong statement but I feel like Matthew Broome has Jonathan Bailey levels of chemistry with everyone and everything. Imagine if he was in Bridgerton, I think I’d die from all of the swooning.
I can’t believe I’m going to have to pay for an Apple TV subscription when season three of this show comes out. I’m currently on a free trial for recently buying an Apple product (a Macbook to replace my 10 year old one that was clinging onto life). It has to be the worst streaming service available. This is the only show I have a real interest in watching on it. Do people genuinely pay for this every month? If yes, what the hell are they watching?
Synopsis: In the 1870s, the “Buccaneers” are five ambitious young women and daughters of the American nouveau riche—Nan and Jinny St. George, Conchita Closson, and Lizzy and Mabel Elmsworth. Following Conchita’s wedding to Lord Richard Marable, the women are invited to London in the midst of debutante season in the hopes of securing husbands and titles. The women’s eccentric and extroverted nature contrasts with English high society and centuries of tradition as they navigate cultural clashes and strict social codes while dealing with interpersonal relationships and potential suitors.
