What I Watched: May 2025

Instead of writing this post throughout the month like I keep telling myself I should do, I’ve left it until the day of posting it. So, hi! I wrote this post about five hours ago and I’m struggling to remember what I watched last month even though it only ended a week ago.

I’d said in my May to be watched that I would be finishing The Last of Us but that never happened. I’ve still only watched four episodes because I watch it with my boyfriend and we’ve both been too busy to sit down to watch TV together.

Anyway, here’s everything I watched in May (that I can remember):

Weird Kids

This podcast is the biggest reason why I started a Beacon membership. After watching the first episode for free on YouTube, I knew I had to continue watching it as I also was and still am a weird kid. Not to the extent of child actors who grew up in Hollywood, but still weird.

I really love listening to people talk about things they are passionate about, especially when they’re really good friends. My favourite episode of Weird Kids so far was the one with the cast of Midst. It’s the longest one they’ve done and I loved listening to them talk about the things that make them ‘weird kids’. If you love Critical Role and you’ve been on the fence about getting a Beacon membership, I’d say it’s definitely worth it for the exclusive content. Plus, ads on YouTube are really annoying and if you get the annual subscription, it’s like £3 a month!

Synopsis: What happens when two former child actors, who grew up on Hollywood sets surrounded by adults, look back and realize just how bizarre their upbringing really was? They start a podcast of course!

In this retro styled podcast, Ashley Johnson and Taliesin Jaffe deep dive into their lives as the “Weird Kids”, unraveling their eccentric childhoods, swapping behind-the-scenes stories, and embracing their delightfully unique interests that set them apart.

From antique toys and taxidermy to Japanese pop culture and the quirks of LA life, no topic is too obscure!

Weird Kids is for anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t quite fit in and is a place to cherish all the eclectic things that make this world more fun. So to all the misfits, outcasts, and weirdos out there, come take a seat at our table and celebrate all things unconventional, nostalgic, and wonderfully weird.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

I’m not really sure why I put off watching this show, I absolutely love Bridgerton so I knew I’d love this. I actually think the story of Queen Charlotte outshines any of the original show’s seasons. Don’t get me wrong season two and three of Bridgerton are great but the plot of this felt much more grounded and heartfelt. The final scene had me absolutely sobbing, I don’t think I’ve cried so much while watching a show before. It completely broke me.

I love a good origin story and this was a great one. I’d love to see a series about Violet and Edmund as we don’t know that much about how they got together other than they were childhood friends I think? He wasn’t in this show though.

Synopsis: Betrothed against her will to King George, young Charlotte arrives in London on her wedding day and faces scrutiny from the monarch’s cunning mother.

Andor season two

The second half of this season is quite possibly some of the best TV I have ever seen. If people refused to watch this show because it didn’t have any Jedi or force users, they are idiots. Andor isn’t just a good Star Wars show, it’s a good show in general. The first few episodes of season two were a little hit or miss but the last four were incredible. They’ve also made Rogue One even more of a heavy hitter. It was already one of my favourite Star Wars films, but now the story means so much more.

Synopsis: The series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Critical Role, Campaign 2: The Mighty Nein

I actually didn’t watch as much of this as I thought I would. Since having a Beacon membership, I’ve pretty much had Critical Role playing at all times. However, as I mentioned at the start of this post, I watched a lot of Weird Kids.

I’m now, thankfully, back at the point where the whole cast is present. Those episodes without Travis and Laura are a little tough to get through. I’m not always a huge fan of guest appearances, unless I already know them or their performance is great, so those episodes are always a bit of a struggle.

Laura (Jester) in particular, is such a huge presence for The Mighty Nein and the group as whole feels so quiet and serious without her. Plus she’s probably my favourite Critical Role character of all time so her absence is always very noticeable.

Synopsis: Set in the magical world of Exandria, on the continent of Wildemount, Critical Role’s Mighty Nein campaign is the story of a group of motley and chaotic adventurers who find themselves caught in the middle of a war between two nations.
