Campaign synopsis: “Hero to many. Enemy to some. When Thjazi Fang is marked for execution, various figures from across his remarkable life unite to uncover the truth behind his grim fate. In a land still suffering from the fallout of dead gods and living in the shadow of a tumultuous rebellion, these disparate people will come together across the fractured world of Aramán and connect in ways they never imagined.
As hope and victory fade, a question hangs over Aramán. Without the Gods, what great deeds now fall to us? And who, or what, shall grab their crown from themselves?”
Episode synopsis: “Deep in the hidden dungeon of Castle Delawney, the Soldiers must fight for their lives against the cruel allies of House Tachonis…”
Cold Open
The glasses Taliesin has perched on the end of his nose really gives off the arrogant air that I’ve come to relate to Bolaire. Not that we’ve spent that much time with Bolaire yet that I can really have an opinion about them. Also, unrelated but I love Taliesin’s pink hair.
Putting the DM on the right side of the screen during the close up of Murray feels extremely wrong. It makes sense as that’s how they’re facing each other, but it’s very jarring.
This has to be the longest cold open yet and I can’t help but feel like it’s only been done because none of these characters/players have been seen for weeks. I honestly thought the tables would switch around more often – not that I’m complaining, I love the Soldiers.
Basilisk Brawl in The Dungeons
As if Brennan made Whitney think Tyranny was turning to stone for like for a week (assuming they record these weekly) just to start the episode by basically saying “oh she’s fine”.
Wicander: *rolls the lowest initiative* “I am a bottom”.
“There’s no good way to put this” – words you never want to hear from Brennan Lee Mulligan. Which I’m right to say as this ended with what is basically a basilisk shotgun. This moment was definitely in retaliation for the fact that Tyranny succeeded in her constitution saving throw at the end of the last episode. Which is fair, no one wants to watch super easy combat.
I’ve been waiting for Sam’s chalice to get a glow up, I had a feeling he wouldn’t keep the small one for very long. It would be extremely out of character for Sam to have a small cup at this point.
Dark One’s Blessing is my favourite part of having The Fiend as a patron. It’s my favpurite warlock subclass.
I’m not sure how other people feel about it, and I don’t really care either way, but I love the homebrew level up mechanic Brennan is using. It makes way more sense for the characters to level up in line with the narrative rather than reaching the end of the episode by saying “you’ve all now level 4”. Not that this isn’t valid, of course it is, but having it drive the story makes more sense for this group.
Basilisk Brawl Continues
I’m actually obsessed with the fact that Thimble is the biggest damage dealer despite being the smallest character. Rolling a natural 20 on the first ‘desperate measure’ of the campaign is crazy. I still think with all of these homebrew rules they’ve added they should have just made it a Daggerheart campaign.
I basically checked out for the last part of this episode. I was properly watching but absolutely no thoughts came out of my head. There were some really great moments, such as Travis rolling absolutely terribly and losing the will to live, but I’m just so tired. I’m on my Christmas break at the moment so my brain is in holiday mode.
