The Best Of: My Favourite Christmas Films #3

Merry Christmas! I hope you’re having a lovely day even if you don’t celebrate the holiday.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

It has now become a tradition to watch The Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas Day. This tradition started a few of years ago when myself and my boyfriend had our first Christmas alone – we live quite far from our families so the trip back is long, expensive (three trains) and stressful when you have two guinea pigs. Now we also have a dog, who isn’t any stress at all, and also a car, so traveling back is much easier. Unfortunately, last year we didn’t get to watch this film at all, but I’m going to make it my mission to make sure we watch it today!

Our usual tradition with this film includes prepping Christmas dinner and then sitting down to eat with the film on in the background. My boyfriend isn’t a huge fan of Christmas films, but this one is his all-time favourite.

I feel like this is also a classic by now. A lot of people probably donโ€™t enjoy The Muppets, Iโ€™m not terribly keen on them myself, but thereโ€™s just something so wonderful about this film.

Synopsis: Scrooge, an old miser who dislikes Christmas, is visited by spirits who foretell his future and share secrets from his past and present, which helps change his view on life.

The Polar Express

I know a lot of people hate the animation style of this film, but there’s a special place in my heart for this film. The first time I watched it was during a film afternoon in primary school (I was about six I think) so I have really fond memories of it.

The Polar Express ins’t a film I watch every year, mostly because I don’t own it on DVD and it’s also pretty hard to find online. It’s currently only available in the UK on NowTV, whcih is honestly one of, if not the most expensive streaming service. For any non-UK people, you have to pay separately for films, TV shows, sports and then not having ads costs even more.

Anyway, talking about this film is making me want to watch it. I’m going to have a festive film night with a hot chocolate (very fitting for this film) and snuggle under a blanket with my dog.

Synopsis: This is the story of a young hero boy who boards on a powerful magical train that’s headed to the North Pole and Santa Claus’ home on Christmas Eve night. During this ride, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery which shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.
