To Be Read: May 2026

I’m not sure what to include in this post as I’ve really been struggling to get through books recently. It’s almost the end of April and I’ve only read three books. I don’t think I’ve ever struggled to read so much in my entire life. I can’t even tell you what’s going on right now that’s making it so difficult. I’m fairly busy but I’ve always found time to read no matter what.

For this reason, I’m once again not promising too many reads in May. I still have quite a few graphic novel ARCs to get through and I’m currently stuck on a different ARC; Falling For The Protagonist. I’ve been reading it for over a week now and I’m not even 20% through. To be fair, I went away last week and had no opportunities to read, but I’m just not vibing with it so far.

I also feel like I need to make the most of my Kindle Unlimited subscription, which I can’t lie, I completely forgot I had until I started writing this post.

The Vanishing Cherry Blossom Bookshop by Takuya Asakura

I put this book on my spring to be read and I feel like May will be a good time to pick it up. It’s on the shorter side, which I definitely need right now, and it also has what looks like perfect spring vibes. Not sure why, but I’m getting a feeling that this book will be heartbreaking. I don’t read just straight up contemporary fiction very often, so this will be a different experience for me.

Synopsis: As the last petal falls, the final page is turned…

Welcome to The Cherry Blossom Bookshop, a haven for book lovers that only appears during the fleeting cherry blossom season. Nestled amidst the bloom of delicate petals, you’ll find a sanctuary for those burdened by regrets and past sorrows. Here, Sakura, the mysterious young owner, and her wise calico cat, Kobako, patiently await the arrival of souls in need of solace and healing.

Told over four seasons, each visitor to the bookshop holds a book that bridges their past and present, guiding them towards understanding and acceptance. Within the antique charm of the shop and the soothing aroma of freshly brewed coffee, Sakura and Kobako help their guests confront their lingering sadness through the power of stories, enabling them to move forward with renewed hope.

Ghoul by Kasey Iris

This is one of the graphic novel ARCs I’ll be picking up in May. I’m not sure if I’ve talked about this before, but this looks so fun. The cover alone is making me want to pick it up. I love a unique art style and the colour palette is so aesthetically pleasing for me. I love pinks and purples in graphic novels, which I feel like I’ve said a lot.

Synopsis: Be careful what you wish for! This graphic novel about a lonely Filipino American teen and her ghoulish companion puts a spooky twist on the imaginary friend.

When they were little, Lyn and Meg promised to be friends forever…but now Meg is dead, and Lyn is 15 and miserable. Moving into a new condo with her family doesn’t help, especially given the gossipy neighbors. But just when Lyn needs a friend the most, a monstrous cartoon ghoul climbs out of the pages of a comic book and into her life! The bizarre duo will soon discover just how many secrets lie within the walls of Forest Court Apartments.

Wisteria by Adalyn Grace

I’d also love to get around to finishing this series in May. I’m feeling a little nervous about it though. After feeling so excited to finish the A Trial of Sorcerers series by Elise Kova and hating the final book, I’m worried it will happen with this one too. Fingers crossed it won’t. It does have a really high average rating, so that’s a good sign I suppose.

Synopsis: Blythe Hawthorn has never let anyone tell her what to do… and she’s not about to start now.

Headstrong and passionate, she won’t be ruled by society, or by her overprotective father, and certainly not by the man she’s bound herself to, no matter how insufferable he is. She’s determined to be a thorn in his side for the rest of her days, even as he ensues that her life in his palace is anything but the decadent fairytale she imagined. But as Blythe discovers a new side of herself linked to his past, she’ll have to decide if she’s willing to let an unexpected spark ignite… and discover the real truth about who she is inside.

Wisteria is a sensational conclusion to the deathly and decadent Belladonna trilogy, with dramatic twists and a seductive new romance that will set readers’ hearts ablaze.
